History

Santa Rosa, province of El Oro, a blessed land. Its inhabitants live on their marine products, especially shrimp. Puerto Jelí, belonging to Santa Rosa, has become the favorite place for national and foreign tourists who come to try seafood such as shell and delicious shrimp.

Jorge Kaiser, was born in Santa Rosa canton on October 15, 1928 and since he was young he was linked to agriculture and livestock; He was also a coastal patron and a recognized fighter for the advancement of his native province. He was also interested in research on shrimp and the possibility of its reproduction and development in salt water artificial ponds, the results of which he transmitted to his colleagues in El Oro and the rest of the country. In 2002, in recognition of his work, the Municipality of Santa Rosa declared him a Notable Citizen, and the National Congress awarded him the Vicente Rocafuerte Award for his outstanding citizen services and as an example of an entrepreneur who created a job.
